Garmin

For boaters and outdoor enthusiasts who want a top-of-the-line rugged GPS, this new unit features a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter, crisp color mapping, high-sensitivity receiver, new molded rubber side grips, plus a microSD card slot for loading additional maps. This is the replacement model for the 76CSx GPS which we sold for many years. Users of the 76 and 60 series will have no problem transitioning over to this new unit. The 78 series is virtually the same as the 62 series except that this unit floats and is geared more towards users on or around water.

Explore

GPSMAP 78s comes with built-in worldwide basemap; street/road, topographic and marine maps can all be added easily into internal memory or onto a microSD chip. Like the rest of the 78-series, 78s is IPX7 waterproof and floats in water.

Also available is the 78sc. In this case, the "c" stands for coastal.  This unit comes preloaded with g2 nautical charts for coastal regions of the United States and would be ideal for Canadian boaters who travel regularly in American coastal waters.  Please call 1-888-444-0302 or email for more information and pricing on this model.

Get Your Bearings

GPSMAP 78s has a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass, which shows your heading even when you’re standing still, and without the need to hold level. Its barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure and increases elevation accuracy. Pressure can be plotted over time, allowing you to keep an eye on changing weather conditions.

Share Wirelessly

The GPSMAP 78s can share waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other compatible device users. Now you can send the location of your favorite fishing spot to a friend. Sharing data is easy. Just press “send” to transfer your information to similar units. This feature is useful for both recreational and professional purposes. You will not always be near a computer while out in the field and sometimes it could be very handy to "beam" your waypoints and tracklogs to another user.

Keep Your Fix

With its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix satellite prediction, GPSMAP 78s locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The advantage is clear — whether you’re in deep woods or just near tall buildings and trees, you can count on GPSMAP 78s to help you find your way when you need it the most. If you get in a situation where your GPS unit is unable to get a clear view of the sky, you can also connect an mcx external antenna.

Add Maps

Adding more maps is easy with Garmin's wide array of detailed marine, topographic and road maps, available on microSD card. Conveniently plug in BlueChart g2 preloaded cards for a great day on the water or City Navigator NT maps data for turn-by-turn routing on streets/roads. The card slot is located inside the waterproof battery compartment, so you don't have to worry about getting it wet. GPSMAP 78s also supports BirdsEye Satellite Imagery (USA only - subscription required), that lets you download satellite images to your device and integrate them with your maps. You can also add your own pixel-based maps using Custom Maps, free software that transforms paper and electronic maps into downloadable maps for your device.

Get Connected

You've been busy exploring and now you want to store and analyze your activities. With a simple connection to your computer and to the Internet, you can get a detailed analysis of your activities and send tracks to your outdoor device using Garmin Connect. This one-stop site offers an activity table and allows you to view your activities on a map using Google Earth. Explore other routes uploaded by millions of Garmin Connect users and share your experiences on Twitter and Facebook. Getting started is easy, so get out there, explore, and share.

Find Fun

Even though the 78s has everything you need for professional use it also has many recreational features. GPSMAP 78s supports geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to your unit. GPSMAP 78s stores and displays key information, including location, terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions, which means no more manually entering coordinates! Simply upload the GPX file to your unit and start hunting for caches. The 78s also supports the new "chirp" wireless beacon from Garmin. Slim and lightweight, 78s is a perfect companion for all your outdoor pursuits.

GPSMAP 78s: Colorful maps, durable design, waterproof and floatable - a great outdoor GPS.
