Most Garmin handheld units allow the user to calculate the area enclosed by a saved tracklog. Some older units may require firmware upgrades to enable this feature. Go to Garmin's firmware upgrade page and download the latest unit software for your unit. As long as your GPS can connect to a computer, you can download tracklogs and/or waypoints to the computer and then use the Garmin MapSource program to calculate area, and even edit the tracklog. Certain GPS models can do the area calculation on the unit itself. If you have any questions regarding area calculation send an email to art@gpszone.ca.
